I am SO proud of myself. Hehe. But really, all glory be unto God.
This evening, I battled my reluctance to brave those Thaipusam traffic jams (they are massive in Penang btw)... drove right into one... and got stuck in there for quite a while before I arrived at my destination - just to meet up with two friends.
One of them (Lily), I got to know in the Methodist Young Adults' Convention last September. The other one (Milin) was a college-mate whom I hadn't met in 10 years! The amazing thing is this: Lily and Milin have known one another since they were 9 - because they were from the same school. When I met Lily and got to know that she was from Convent Pulau Tikus, I just had to ask her if she knew Milin. Turns out she did! In fact, they were (and still are) very close friends. To cut the long story short, since Milin is back in Penang for the Chinese New Year hols, the 3 of us decided to meet-up. The only time the 3 of us were free to meet-up was today... on Thaipusam Day. Since Lily and Milin live on the same side of the island, the majority won - we were to meet on their side of the island, which also meant that I would have to force my way through the massive jam (from my side of the island) to get there.
I was really glad that I did not give our appointment a miss, even though I was pretty tempted to do so initially. Number one, I dreaded the traffic jams - the meet-up was right out of my comfort zone. Number two, I wasn't quite sure what I would have to say to Milin after a decade. Number three, I was just being me a.k.a shy and insecure, haha! (I am not that good at reunions.) Thank God for His encouragement (through my husband) as well as the grace and strength to push myself past those limitations. Things weren't as bad as I expected. I do have to say that it was a lovely meet-up. We had coffee, chatted, laughed and took pictures. I truly enjoyed myself - getting to know Lily better and catching up with Milin.
Milin hasn't changed much since A-levels. How Milin remembers me to be like back in college is this (at least this is a summary of what she told Lily): Very nice, a "good girl" and studious. "She was always studying in the library!" In other words (I now realize) - goody-two-shoes and nerdy. 8-)
What else I did today: I went to Balik Pulau with Ben for laksa and visited my mother-in-law. Some pictures of our Balik Pulau escapade...
