7 memorable years and still counting
Realised today that it has been 7 years since I began worshipping at Trinity in 2006. (The year I came back to Malaysia from Ireland.)
I don't know why I stayed on since my first visit here - but I did. Made friends. Was ministered to. Participated in the Eucharist. Served on WAM. Worked as a full-time staff for a while. Met Ben. Got married. Understood what it meant to be Methodist. Etcetera.
For me, staying on in a church is like being in a big family. There are things that make you mad and sad ~ there are people who rub you the wrong way (I am pretty sure that I could be sand-paper-sister to some, myself) ~ the grass can look greener and crunchier in another pasture ~ and sometimes, you have this terrible urge to pack up and run away. But you never do. Because there are also things that hold you back. Those treasured memories, good relationships and God's peace that surpasses all understanding and rebellion (uhuh)... that reassures you from time to time that you belong. You remember that you are here by grace ~ that you have received much that you do not deserve ~ that you have been blessed beyond measure.
There are no perfect churches, because there are no perfect people. Each church is rooted in God's grace. Each imperfect church continues to have its being because Jesus Christ is perfect. It is His Body that we constitute and thus, are being transformed by His indwelling Spirit. As individuals as well as the corporate.
Trinity and me. A wonderful journey to remember.
I pray that as long as I have not been called to move somewhere else, I would be faithful to play my role here.
