And she begins classes with G next Thursday.
Saying goodbye was more emotional for me than for her, me thinks.
S was my very first student at Faith Music. Mature beyond her age, she certainly did not fit into what I thought 6-year-olds were supposed to be like. (She finds kiddy stuff boring and unappealing.) And then, it turned out that she's an avid reader - as great a lover of Enid Blyton's books as I was when I was her age. (Actually, I do see a lot of myself in her!) We spent many brief but pleasant moments discussing Blyton's "Mystery series" and it was always such a joy to see her serious face light up at the mention of her favourite characters. She began breaking out of her shell - giggling and laughing in my classes (for good reasons, of course) - and I let her. Sometimes, she would tell me about her school, her friends, her family, her church and other random stuff. I shared some about myself with her too. Making music with her has been fun - even when she groaned and moaned when I had to be strict. She brought out the clown in me - probably because I was working hard to make her enjoy her lessons and not think about quitting. Thank God, she eventually stopped saying that she wanted to quit piano!
We've grown used to one another, I must say. I know that this was entirely God's favour and blessing for the both of us. Indeed, God has given me a lot of wisdom and patience to teach her. I pray that the next teacher would have as much fun as I had with S - and perhaps more! :)
I have grown to love her. And I will miss her much.
