Sophie's diaries: 10 weeks +

A few updates on our Sophie girl...

1. Our nights are a little longer now that she is able to go without her feeds for longer stretches at night... sometimes up to 6 hours. Furthermore, as I have dropped my pumps from 8 per day to 4 per day (6 hourly), with a yield of two full (4 oz) bottles of milk per pump, I am regaining my sanity. Definitely. I might even let Ben off his night-feeding (and nappy-changing) duties soon, so that he is able to go to work more awake in the mornings. Indeed, he is one very sacrificial father (and husband).

2. Sophie is able to lift up her head briefly in both pronate and supine positions - as well as keep her unsupported head steady while seated upright on our laps. Not for too long though. She would also try to grab things within her reach and if successful, bring them to her mouth or pull herself to a sitting position (for hanging objects). In the past 2 weeks or so, she has tried to kick herself from supine to pronate - yet unsuccessfully. I didn't know that babies developed this fast!

3. She smiles, laughs and talks much more nowadays. She is usually all smiles after she has accomplished her morning poop. Her newest words are as follows: "coe", "gooo", "mmm", "mah" and "ell-o". Sometimes, she strings words together to make the most heart-melting, knee-jellying sentences.

4. Apparently, she sings along when my mother-in-law worships in Hokkien. I wouldn't know. My singing lulls her to sleep instead. *Sigh*

5. We pray short prayers with her before each feed now. Thank God for the milk - and "bless it to her body, in Jesus' name, amen." Something like that. Whoever feeds her have been asked to do the same - in whatever language you please!

6. Black-and-white pictures fascinate her. We look through my Bible illustrations together in the afternoons. She is not shy to let me (and later, her grandma) know what she thinks of them. I plan to expose her to more art in the coming weeks and months.

7. She is getting used to car-rides. It is great that she is now able to sit quietly in her car-seat throughout the journey, as long as she is fed when hungry. The longest journey we have undertaken as a family so far spanned 3-4 hours. We will try a trip down to KL next, more coffee-outings, church events, seminary (office) trips - and eventually, I want to bring her to Singapore via flight. Well, somebody is an ambitious mom.
