A Pacifier-free Fortnight

I am one proud mummy.

It wasn't as hard as I had expected. Phew!

I had been meaning to wean Sophie off her bedtime pacifier since she turned two, but as we all know, there is never a good day to break-up. I kept putting it off (and I even forgot about weaning) until Sophie suddenly announced one fine day that she didn't want her "choot choot".

"Really?" I asked incredulously and a little reluctantly.
"Yeah."
"Ok....."

Guess what? She was as good as her word. I realised after all that the weaning was for me, and not Sophie. For a few nights, her skeptical mummy kept the pacifier in an easily accessible spot in our bedroom (unknown to Sophie of course) so that I could reach for it and pop it into her mouth if she cried inconsolably or bugged me for her pacifier in the middle of the night - or throughout the night. (Who knows right? I could not afford to lose sleep over that.) She never did. Furthermore, she now sleeps better without her pacifier. Somehow.

Amusingly, Sophie did ask for her pacifier the following night. I, however, told her that she's a big girl now and that we should keep the pacifier for her little brother or sister (if she ever has one). We also promised to give her a Milo nugget the next day if she didn't use a pacifier that night. Thankfully, she relented. After a few nights, she didn't ask for her pacifier anymore. She forgot about the Milo nuggets too. I have stopped bringing the pacifier into our room at night. Feels good.

Congrats, Sophie.

Next goal: weaning Sophie off her night feeds (we are down to 1-2 feeds as compared to 3-4 when she was much younger).
