Grace finds...

Noah found grace (Genesis 6:8).

This is a literal translation, by which we could safely abide. It is obvious, however, that Noah was not outstanding in moral character compared to the rest of (the sinful) human race. He was not more worthy than you and me. His faith in God and his obedience followed his receipt of grace rather than precede it. How then did he "find" grace?

God chose to give grace to Noah.

In reality, grace found Noah.

Grace finds us wallowing in our sin. It is a holy intrusion, by which our eyes are forever opened. Repulsed by our sins and the judgment they deserve, we turn back to God. That was what happened to Noah. He subsequently obeyed God's command to build the ark; by doing so, there was salvation for him and his family. Grace compels us to take refuge in God's law i.e. the words God has spoken. Obey and live. Disobey and the curses will have to rain down upon you and drown you.

Has grace found you? Have you begun on your ark?

The flood will come. Begin today.
