I haven't gone for vocal training in a whole month, partially because of the miscarriage. Wasn't that sick or weak ~ but my vocal teacher thought that I would be much better off resting a few weeks (our vocal lessons are that strenuous!) She was very gracious not to charge me any fee for the month of December too. Her dogs (Presto and Tutti) welcomed me back lavishly as if I were a long-lost friend ~ and so did the teacher (she spent a good half-an-hour before class talking to me about the choir ministry, her dogs, sourdough bread-making, her random researches on alternative medicine and etc). I felt so loved.
Something about my 5-year-old, beginner student that I thought was too adorable and funny not to share... Well, this is about a conversation (that took place at the student's home), which her mom shared with me yesterday:
Student: Mummy, you must watch me play the piano. I can play.
Mom: *impressed* Wow, really?
Student seated herself at the piano and positioned her two hands on the keyboard... with her fingers nicely curved too. Mother sat back, in great anticipation...
Student began playing. Mother watched and listened in growing disbelief (and amusement).
Later...
Student: *in glee* Mummy, do you know what was the song I played?
Mother: *thinks to herself: "Huh... what song?"* ~ Errrrrrr.... I don't know...
Student: It's "Love in my eyes/See me fly" (the song she made me play at the end of every session during the first few months - she even brought me the 8-page score to sight-read!)
Mother: Huhhh... where got??!??
Student: Got... You must IMAGINE la... Imagine that I played "Love in my eyes"...
Mother: @_@ *facepalm*
Haha! Well... I have always believed that imagination is a powerful thing. My student applied it quite well, yes? ;)
