The fragrant aroma of Christ

Verses which I am meditating on (from my QT) today ~ 2 Corinthians 2:14-16

"But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life...." (ESV)

Those who truly know God carry with them the fragrance of Christ ~ like perfume. (In fact, the Bible implies that these God-chasers are the aroma of Christ. Most importantly, the aroma of Christ to God Himself.) The fragrance that emanates is an acquired taste ~ and not all find it favourable. Firstly, I would like to find it favourable ~ because it would be then to me, a fragrance that leads from life to life. Secondly, I pray that I would truly be the aroma of Christ to God ~ the fragrance in which God takes pleasure and which ministers to His heart. I want to know God. Thirdly, I pray that I would be, by God's grace as I abide in Christ, the fragrance of Christ to others ~ whether thrilling and captivating OR totally offensive as I embrace the cross. Let me not be the aroma of anything else but Christ.

Lastly, what does it mean to be the aroma of Christ to others? I invite you to ponder on it with me...
